Organ Mountain New Mexico
White Sands National Monument, New
Mexico- While situated now at 4235 feet at
one time this Gypsum enriched material was
at the bottom of the ocean. Tectonic
upheaval about 275 million years ago slowly
rose up the seabed while the ocean drained
away. Amazingly these 275 square miles of
ever changing sand dunes(gypsum) are
affected by winds and weather. The public is
allowed in certain areas to use saucers to
slide down as if this is snow. Even
snowplows are used to clear off covered
roads by winds..
