The night can be challenging when taking photos with or without flash. I try not to use artificial lighting but at times it can be beneficial to lighting up the foreground and freezing the moment. At other times slow shutter speeds bring in the existing light and the excitement is captured with a sense of continuation after the shot is taken.
Malta Streets-Malta-Nikon D40 Sometimes a night scene to me needs to be lit up. While a slow shutter speed without flash would have encompassed the background, in this case the harshness of a flash can exhibit the moment of joy against an awaiting street of darkness.
