IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A LAS VEGAS WITH WATER. It started in 1905 when a development company attempted to divert water from the Colorado. A failure became a breach and flooded this Salton area at 226ft below sea level for two years before the water was redirected. Post WW2 and all its growth in America lead to this recreational development with great plans! Accessible to ever growing Los Angeles it was the perfect water retreat getaway for close to two decades. Their great ideas should of checked in first with science and geography as those two had a different outcome of their own ! With no natural water outflow below sea level, salinities rose to dangerous levels along with increased Coachella Valley farming, its run off only lead to chemical and salt levels close to Great Salt Lake. Dead fish, odors and unstable conditions caused the retreat of so many to look elsewhere. Today it is a shell of what it was....but Attractively Anthropogenic !
